|   FAQs
How does it work?
AFR works like regular acupuncture with a specific focus on the face and skin. Needles are placed on specific points on the face and body for certain conditions, increasing blood flow and the production of collagen and elastin. AFR treatments consist of facial acupuncture, body acupuncture, and facial massage techniques, including jade roller, tui na and gua sha. Many patients notice a glow and other improvements after the first treatment.Back to top
How does it compare to other cosmetic procedures?
AFR is non-evasive, has no downtime, and no harsh side effects. With AFR, people will say, “You look really good. What have you been doing?” instead of “Have you had work done?”Back to top
What are the side-effects?
Aside from very occasional and temporary bruising at a needle site, the “side-effects” of AFR are all positive: improved digestion, better quality of sleep, regulated menstrual cycles, a reduction of hot flashes, stress reduction, improved energy and overall sense of well-being.Back to top
How often will I need to get treatments?
This of course depends on your treatment goals. If you are seeking prevention and maintenance, treatments every one to two months is typical. If you want to address already developed lines, wrinkles and sagging skin, your treatment plan might consist of bi-weekly treatments for one to three months, followed by weekly treatments for another one to three months, and then moving to a maintenance program. As always at Energy Matters, all treatment plans are created for you personally.Back to top
What is the origin of AFR?
Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation techniques were first used by the Empress and China’s elite class to enhance their physical beauty and youthful allure. These treatments were based on the knowledge that acupuncture was used to treat drooping of the face and facial paralysis from Bell’s Palsy and stroke. The reasoning was that if acupuncture could improve these severe symptoms, it could be highly effective in reducing sagging of the skin and wrinkles.Back to top
