SHOUT OUTS: Acupuncture
What they’re saying…
Thank you so much for seeing me – that experience was just so great. I found you so grounding and really appreciated all of your healing expertise. I’m always amazed at the power of acupuncture, and the direct experience of chi when I have it done! The cupping was the best.
As a result of receiving regular acupuncture I am physically and emotionally healthier: calmer mood, allergies gone, fewer sinus infections, fewer headaches, back and knee problems kept to a minimum so I can continue an active life.
I love this place. I came in because of problems with acne. After trying everything and I mean everything…. I thought about trying acupuncture! I can honestly say…I have seen an improvement on my face!
The staff there is so nice and the place is very welcoming!
I use acupuncture to remain healthy on all accounts. I first started going for my dance soreness and stresses and then later for help getting pregnant. My spirit is the first to be healed, then my emotional well-being, and finally the body. I see it as a circle. This work takes into account the emotional reasons for contracting illness and or injury and brings you full circle to a healthier, more focused, energetic person. It has changed my life.
I have been getting acupuncture for more than 20 years and have in the last year been seeing Angela Coon at Energy Matters. I take my needle-phobic son too and he loves working with her.
Angela has a great ‘bedside’ manner, explains things on the level with as much ease for a child as for an adult. Her knowledge of pediatric needs, general wellness/ailments, female issues, dietary needs and effects, herbal medicine – (her knowledge of) all of them is broad and she uses a combination of things depending on who you are and what you need.
For me acupuncture and Chinese herbs have addressed some chronic problems at their root, when Western medicine has only been able to treat the surface symptoms. I have also learned how to make dietary choices that enhance my overall health and decrease those same chronic symptoms. Acupuncture itself is a very restful experience, leaving me feeling both calm and vitalized.
I highly recommend Kari for sport or accident related injuries. Or any other pain management. She is smart, friendly and highly knowledgeable of the body and how it functions. I have been seeing her on a weekly, if not, bi weekly basis for months now. She has helped me regain my mobility in my knees and shoulders. Her ability to pinpoint the pain and treat it is amazing. Every time I go I learn something new about my body and how to take care of it. I don’t know what I would do without her.
Acupuncture is the best way to gather and reconnect my physical, mental and emotional being. With regular care, my body has come to respond immediately and has re-patterned itself to use the treatments as a healing process..

It was lovely to be treated to such a super session. I felt noticeably different after my appointment with you. Walking hurt less, I felt rested and the muscles in my shoulders and neck felt a huge pressure release. I’m so grateful to have been referred to Energy Matters and look forward to my next visit.

Acupuncture is a miracle. I was referred to Kirsten several years ago by a friend who told me, “I’ve never felt better than I have lying on a Kirsten’s table once a week.” It is true! My anxiety is better. My mood swings have stabilized. My energy is positive and I feel that I can manage my life instead of being ruled by strange emotions. Kirstin is caring, compassionate and has an uncanny ability to get to the source of the problem. If you’ve ever wondered about going to acupuncture, don’t wait any longer!
Before I began working with Prajna, I was experiencing severe premenstrual symptoms including developing painful lumps in my breasts, headaches, and severe neck and back pain. I was also bleeding every 3 weeks and having severe menstrual cramps that were not responding to pain killers and would last for two or three days.
Once I learned that Prajna specializes in women’s health and treating people with menstrual disorders using Traditional Chinese Medicine, I decided to get some help. Working with Prajna has transformed my cycle and increased my overall sense of well being. I no longer experience painful premenstrual symptoms, my cycle now comes every four weeks, and best of all I no longer experience the debilitating cramps that I once did.
Prajna is warm and compassionate, gently nudging me to make healthier lifestyle choices while maintaining a non-judgmental attitude towards the limitations of my busy and often stressful work schedule. I experience a sense of profound nourishment and relaxation every time I see her for a treatment, and unlike many other acupuncturists that I’ve worked with, Prajna always takes the time to talk to me about my needs at the beginning of every session and supplements acupuncture treatments with moxabustion, cupping, and massage.
Kirstin is an amazing teacher. Three of my friends have worked with her now and I’m glad to be the fourth. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience the real deal!
Prajna Choudhury is a wise, compassionate, and heart centered acupuncturist. From her opening questions, to the treatment itself, I felt taken care of and seen as a whole person. I went to her recently for shoulder pain; I left feeling such calm, greater flow of energy through my body and arms in particular, and a noticeable ease of pain (and wider range of movement) in my right arm. I felt so much more hopeful about the possibility of healing after my session! I will continue to see Prajna, for ongoing treatment on my arm, and also for just maintaining my overall vitality and health.
I went to see Prajna recently when I was going through a really anxious time. She is very helpful, knowledgeable and compassionate. After each treatment, I was so much calmer and at the same time stronger to deal with the challenges I was going through.
I’ve also been to see her for neck and shoulder pain and she gave me herbs and some exercises to do in addition to the acupuncture which worked really well.
I can’t say enough good things about Prajna. I just need to remember to get acupuncture from her more often!
Prajna’s touch is great – I hate getting acupuncture, but she is gentle and painless – and very patient with my nervousness! I’ve had great results from her treatments, for anxiety, sciatic pain and headaches. And I love her beautiful treatment room with the great view!
Prajna really helped me through a difficult period in my life when I was suffering from a kidney ailment. The prescription drugs I had been taking had really ravaged my body. I began treatments with Prajna and her healing skills really restored balance to my body and spirit. I had never tried acupuncture before but Prajna was really kind and put me at ease from the first visit. I’m grateful for the relief and the treatment she gave me.
Thank you so much for your message. I had such a wonderful experience meeting you. I can’t tell you how good it feels to have someone actually listen and provide a diagnosis and a solution! Within a couple days my depression, insomnia, leg weakness, and puffiness improved (I lost two pounds within 5 days) ! Thanks again for your absolute awesomeness!

Angela is awesome – she’s warm, welcoming and makes you feel completely at ease. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an excellent acupuncture experience!
Angela is the thyroid guru. Though she is hardly about just treating that organ and rather she employs a systems approach to wellness that is refreshing and fantastic. I saw her for complications following thyroid surgery and not only did she immediately change my healing trajectory, she opened my eyes to how to manage and nurture my “new” body for the long term. I feel SO much better and I can’t thank this amazing woman enough. She knows what she is doing and is a great partner in navigating any problem.

Kari is a miracle worker! Not only does she clearly have a mastery of acupuncture techniques and orthopedic bodywork, she also has an unfailing intuition about what to tackle about my physical ailments, and how. Not to mention her sense of humor, which just adds to the overall experience! if you want to feel better right away and stay feeling better, I highly recommend Kari Napoli!
Energy Matters is becoming a very important part of my life, as I attend qi gong classes there and make use of high-level acupuncture care to improve my relationship with my body (and all of nature). Kristin has helped me heal some vexacious and debilitating conditions that had been worsening for years and making me feel old and worn out. Through her beneficent vision a supportive community is coming into being that means a lot to the people who are drawn here to learn more about energy medicine, whether to improve chronic conditions, deepen meditation, lose weight, or to experience rejuvenating facials based upon traditional Chinese medicine. Using their approach to food-based medicine has been extremely helpful for me.
The treatments at Energy Matters have made a huge difference in the quality of my life! The acupuncture and moxibustion treatments have allowed me to continue daily activities that I would not otherwise be able to do such as computer use, driving, house and yard work, walking the dog, and moderate exercise.
In addition to addressing my muscle weakness, it has alleviated my outbreaks of dermatitis and eczema, which no topical solutions could solve. During high pollen season when my prescription nasal spray is not able to fully address all my symptoms of rhinitis, swollen eyes and post nasal drip, it only takes one or two acupuncture treatments to end my misery!
When I injure my back or neck, acupuncture is a great complement to chiropractic treatments. Several times when I needed dental surgery, they positioned a small needle in my ear, which alleviated the need for major pain meds afterwards. When I was looking to lose weight, acupuncture decreased my appetite.
Acupuncture provides immediate relief from headaches and TMJ. While some of my symptoms still flare up, they are significantly less severe and not as frequent as before. I am more confident that I can live my life like a “normal” person because I know that one or two visits to Energy Matters can solve my pain or discomfort.
I know that Chinese medicine is effective based on my own experience and also due to my dog’s experience. Acupuncture therapy extended the quality of life for my border collie for almost two years when she could barely stand up due to arthritis. Following acupuncture, she could walk and run again for several weeks before needing another tune-up. If I ever had doubts due to the “placebo effect”, my dog’s experience was proof positive that it works!
I started seeing Kirstin Lindquist for acupuncture treatments some years ago when she worked in a lovely alternative resource center in Emeryville in walking distance from where I live. From the beginning, I have experienced her to be a ‘no nonsense’ practitioner in that she sees me on time, and though willing to chat, steers us toward the goal which is to see what’s up for me that needs her attention—she really listens–then gets right to taking care of what she perceives needs to be done. She is very skilled and informed in her field. I am always surprised at the range of knowledge she has working with the many different health issues that present themselves to me in my baby boomer capacity….ranging from sore knees, low energy, dizziness, memory issues, and most recently cholesterol issues. And she is always willing to find out more and get back to me so I am well equipped to work with the problem.
Most recently when she was holding my wrist to check my pulses, I had a heart opening awareness of how an old experience was contributing to a current ailment. I realized even more that Kirstin is not just putting needles in me in the appropriate places based on her many years of education; she is also imparting a healing energy that penetrates other layers of my being which allows me to heal more holistically.
Though Kirstin has moved out of my neighborhood, I continue to drive over to see her once a month in her beautiful new facility. I rarely have colds and flues and I attribute that to the work she does that strengthens my immune system. Even the discomfort I experience with other issues seems to fade at most times which I attribute to what I do to contribute to my own healing and very much to Kirstin’s intelligent and kind approach to working with my well being.
Originally, I started going to Energy Matters to help me with night sweats, hot flashes and a real lack of energy. A friend had suggested acupuncture and Energy Matters. It didn’t take long after my first few acupuncture treatments with Kirstin to see a real improvement with those things as well as stress reduction. Within a few months those night sweats and hot flashes disappeared altogether.
I’m also a diabetic and my blood sugars had been getting too high after a bout with cancer and radiation. Kirstin suggested some supplements and the Food as Medicine 21-day detoxification program. In those 21 days my blood sugars dramatically reduced and I got my energy back. Thanks to the program Kirstin mapped out for me, in the last few months I’ve lost 6″ in the waist and 25 lbs.
In just 6 months, acupuncture and the Food as Medicine program has helped my overall health on more levels than I could have ever imagined. I’m not sure I felt this good when I was 30. I highly recommend Kirstin and her team at Energy Matters.
After over 20 years of searching for a reliable solution for sinus headaches, I decided to try acupuncture. I saw an allergist and general practitioners and tried prescription and over-the-counter medication, as well as home remedies with no consistent relief. These headaches came a few times a month to a few times a week, ranging from 5 to 9 on a 10-point pain scale. I can’t count how many times I’ve canceled plans because of sinus headaches, or just suffered through a day, distracted by the discomfort.
When I decided to try acupuncture, I wanted to keep an open mind even though I had no experience with it. I was lucky enough to find Prajna via a Google search! I’ve been treated with acupuncture, cupping, and Chinese herbs. The results of my treatment have exceeded my expectations to say the least. The few sinus headaches I had in the first two months of treatment were much less intense and resolved more quickly than previous headaches. Now it’s been more than two months since I’ve had a sinus headache and I feel so relieved and grateful!
Prajna is a compassionate and gentle care provider who carefully explains my treatments and offers advice about other health issues. I feel very at ease talking with her about how I’m feeling. I find the treatments very relaxing and am amazed how other minor health problems have improved since beginning acupuncture. I would most certainly recommend treatment from Prajna to anyone looking for relief from a stubborn health problem.
I came to Angela after receiving a diagnosis of thyroid cancer and was not only in shock from the diagnosis but scared that my body was in no condition to prevail through the upcoming nine hour surgery they kept telling me was just ‘a little step down’ from open heart surgery. This was mission critical – I had three weeks – no time or bandwidth to shop around or deal with mediocre treatment. Boy did I luck out when I landed in Angela’s office.
She not only prepared my body for surgery with treatments and supplements, completely transforming how I felt going into it, but stayed by me every step of the way through the surgery and beyond – constantly adjusting the treatments and supplements to effectively support where I was in the process. My only completely pain-free moments post-surgery were when I left her office…oh how I would look forward to that each week! And now I’m excited to work with her on ongoing recovery and thyroid/endocrinological balance (of which she’s becoming an expert) as well as addressing the deeper issues of why cancer manifested in the first place (which I know she has been addressing all along!).
I can honestly say I don’t know how I could have done it without her. I wish everyone could have the intuitive, persistent, effective, compassionate, and insightful care I received from Angela.

As someone who is quite active and generally pretty certain that she’s indestructable [sic], I was devastated when what at first seemed to be a few muscle twinges turned out to be a serious vertebral disc injury. I was in a considerable amount of discomfort and very worried about my condition, and I had to stop training entirely for several weeks because I was in such bad shape; this last was the hardest. Kari not only treated my painful and malfunctioning body while I healed but also became my cheerleader and voice of reason. She assured me that a neck injury wasn’t the end of the world — I had to be proactive about my health and sensible in what I chose to do, but I’d be fine. She was right.
Kari is not merely a stellar acupuncturist and bodyworker but an awesome person, to boot. It is strong testimony to her awesomeness that, even though I dislike needles, I always look forward to my appointments with her.
I had a long standing difficulty with plantar facscitis [sic] that was beginning to impact my ability to participate in dance aerobics and walking. I anticipated a problem as I had a planned hiking trip to the Utah National Parks and had already run out of shoe options and orthotics to alleviate pain. A referral to Kari Napoli for acupuncture treatment particularly for help with joint and orthopedic pain was successful and a welcome relief. I had acupuncture treatment before but my practitioner moved out of state and other referrals were disappointing. I was desperate . I saw Kari for 5 consecutive weeks and she was able to help with bodywork and acupuncture treatments. I felt immediate relief and continued moving toward pain free activities that led to an enjoyable hiking trip. Her suggestions of stretching, soaking, taping between treatments have helped me continue to have less pain and monthly “tune – ups” keep chronic problem areas in check. My pains turned out to be mostly Achilles rather than arch problems and keeping hips stretched and balanced is also beneficial. She is efficient, clear in instructions and kind. All is appreciated. I have recommended her services to many others, particularly family and fellow dance aerobics participants.
Hello Kirstin and Angela,
Just a note to say thank you so much for this great program. I went all 21 days – and of course, I’m sure you’ve heard this before – it has changed my life. Thank you for introducing me to this and for the support throughout the 21 days.
This was a huge lifestyle change for me – I didn’t eat out in a restaurant for 21 days! I really have enjoyed preparing fresh, local, organic, healthy, nutritious foods at home every day. I normally would have eaten more than half of my meals each week in a restaurant. Now that seems so bizarre to me! I still haven’t been in a restaurant this week and I don’t really have any plans to, unless it’s for a treat or a special occasion. Fortunately, we have many great organic, fresh, local restaurants in the Bay Area.
I can see how this is a much more wonderful and healthy way to eat. (I actually lost 10 pounds – mostly fat around my tummy.) And since I’ve been eating ‘regular’ foods again I’ve learned that sugar gives me a splitting headache, makes me anxious, and gives me gas. And it really doesn’t taste all that great anymore – not after 3 weeks of having fresh, alive, organic, deeeelishous fruits and veggies all the time. (I am getting a bit bored with lentils though :o).
So, thank you so much for your support and introducing me to this program – I love it. I plan to do this specific cleanse again in May – with my partner this time!
I’ve been seeing Kirsten for PMS acupuncture treatments and after just a couple of treatments began to feel much more even, less cramps and less moodiness.
Most recently I was coming off a long long course of steroids and was feeling terrible and bloated and generally toxic. I noticed that Kirsten was offering a seminar on a detox diet that would then become a group detox diet including an email group with Kirsten as the fearless leader.
The diet sounded a bit hard at first but it ended up being so easy and awesome. I did not feel hungry of deprived. The diet really focuses on eating healthy whole foods. I felt better immediately and by then end of 3 weeks was wearing my pre-baby pants so I must have lost at least 10 pounds:)
I originally walked into Energy Matters to get some acupuncture for my aching back in March of 2013. Angela was my care provider and I couldn’t be more impressed with her knowledge, gentle, nurturing approach and most importantly, the immediate and long term results for all of my aches and pains accumulated along the 68 years of my life journey. I’m probably 20 pain management sessions into what i see as an essential long term pain care plan going from 2 sessions/week initially to my current schedule of one session every 2 weeks. I’m thrilled with the outcome and would enthusiastically recommend Angela and EM to anyone considering acupuncture as a strategy to manage pain, stress, sleeplessness, etc, etc.
Even better, my wife and i participated in their 21 day cleanse program in June of 2013. Spectacular results…I lost 14 lbs without trying, got a ton of lifetime toxins out of my system and developed a much, much greater sense of what a healthier diet really means and how easy it is to follow one. They provided wonderful, easy to follow daily guidelines, a great selection of recipes and an e-mail based support system for questions, suggestions. I felt the best I have in decades in terms of my digestive tract and plan to do the cleanse again later this year.
THANKS ANGELA AND ENERGY MATTERS FOR ALL THAT YOU’VE DONE FOR ME!
